Wall decor prints
What is the difference between A3 and 3x2 prints?
The A3 paper has dimensions of 42cm by 29.7cm. This implies an aspect ratio of √2:1 (or, about 1.414:1). Most digital cameras (both full-frame and crop-sensor), however, can save photographs in the 3:2 (or, 1.5:1) aspect ratio but usually not in the √2:1 aspect ratio. Evidently, the 3:2 aspect ratio is slightly wider than the aspect ratio of A3 paper.
Print sizes mentioned on this website are in sizes corresponding to the 3:2 aspect ratio (referred to as a 3x2 print) and the A3 paper size. Based on the description above, the A3 aspect ratio prints are crops of their 3x2 originals. Hence, some portion of a 3x2 image will not be visible in its A3 equivalent.
As an example, 45cm x 30cm print size (which is closest to the size of an A3 print at 42cm x 29.7cm) has a 3:2 aspect ratio as does a 30cm x 20cm print.
Note that A3 prints are available only through GoodMood Prints. Out of context of this particular question, prints may also be available in other standard aspect ratios, such as square (1:1), 16:9 or some custom options.
Are there other print aspect ratios for your photographs, apart from A3 and 3x2?
Yes, there are. Please check my ArtMajeur series. For example, this black-and-white photograph of the Azusa river in Kamikochi has a wide 16x9 aspect ratio.
There are also photos and designs available in the square (1x1) aspect ratio.
What is the recommended print size for wall decor?
For reproduction prints, the recommended size for a 3x2 print is 45cm x 30cm while the maximum recommended is 60cm x 40cm even if larger prints are available through ArtMajeur. This is to ensure that the reproduction print quality is excellent.
This applies to reproduction prints of photographs only. For other artwork in pure vector graphics, you can print large sizes without any compromise on quality.
Of course, you can print sizes smaller than 45cm x 30cm without any quality loss.
Can I buy a A4 print?
No. The A4 paper has dimensions of 29.7cm by 21cm. You can buy a 30cm x 20cm print, if a 3x2 print option is available. A 30cm x 20cm is the closest to the size of A4.
Can I buy larger prints, such as A2 or A1?
The only standard paper size that is available as print is A3. Therefore, there is no way to buy A2 or A1 prints.
However, A2 paper has dimensions of 59.4cm by 42cm. The closest 3x2 equivalent is a 60cm x 40cm print. Similarly, for A1 (at 84.1 cm by 59.4 cm), the equivalent 3x2 print size is 90cm x 60cm.
If the 3x2 equivalent for some wall decor is available then instead of looking for a print size in standard paper formats, you can buy the closest 3x2 size print.
Why are some of your photos on ArtMajeur more expensive than the others and not available in various sizes?
Some of my photos are available in limited edition or one-of-a-kind prints in a specific material, such as direct print on aluminium dibond. These special edition prints are different from others on ArtMajeur for which only reproduction prints are available.
Can I buy a custom print size on a specific material, such as aluminum dibond?
That may be possible depending on the artwork. Please get in touch with me with your requirements.
Can I buy the digital files of the images to print them myself, instead of physical prints?
No. As of now, this is not an option, unless otherwise mentioned for any specific image.
However, my photographs (including those that are not listed on this website) and videos are available as digital files through stock imagery licensing. Some such licenses may allow reprinting photographs for specific purposes. For stock imagery providers that are able to license my images, please check below.
